 W czasie uroczystości wręczenia Nagrody Karola Wielkiego papież Jan Paweł przedstawił swoją wizję nowej zjednoczonej Europy, którą - jak powiedział - "pragnie powierzyć przyszłym pokoleniom". Papież wezwał też do budowania "Europy człowieka, nad którą jaśnieje oblicze Boga". |
Uroczystość wręczenia papieżowi Nagrody Karola Wielkiego odbyła się w Sali Klementyńskiej Pałacu Apostolskiego. Nadzwyczajna Nagroda Karola Wielkiego przyznawana jest przez władze Republiki Federalnej Niemiec i miasto Akwizgran za zasługi dla Europy i europejskiej jedności.
